The feathers from a peacock are fairly flexible making it easy for most women to create a hat band out of them. Generally, they attach several feathers together and then circle the feathers around the crown of the hat. A plain straw sunhat or a floppy felt hat looks all the more fashionable with a band made out of these colorful feathers. Some women even create a band of these feathers for each of the different styles of hats that they have in their wardrobe!
Highlighting the Color of a Hat
One of the things that make these feathers so popular is that they are available in many different colors and designs. So, a woman can either match a feather to a hat or choose a feather in a color that complements the color of a hat. Most women appreciate all of the creative choices they have when it comes to enhancing the look of their hats.
Dressing Up a Traditional Hat
These types of feathers are ideal for many styles of hats. For instance, a woman can add some flair to a plain, black beret by attaching a green and blue peacock feather to it. The feather could be long and wave in the breeze. Or, it may be a short feather that simply accents the hat making it look more elegant.
Another traditional hat such as a cloche can be dressed up with the simple addition of a feather on its crown or brim. There are many women who like to put their own twist on the look of a traditional hat.
Finally, a woman who uses these feathers to accent a hat is following along with a classic trend. In the 19th century, women wore hats that featured one beautiful peacock feather or a gathering of them. These feathers can make a hat look exotic and elegant at the same time.
I think big hats can be fabulous - when worn at the right event of course :)
ReplyDeleteI adore ladies hats and totally wish more women would wear them!
ReplyDeletePeacocks do have beautiful feathers. It would decorate a hat nicely - as long as no birds are harmed in the making of it.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of wearing hats. I'm probably weird. :)
ReplyDeleteI usually stick to straw hats on spring summer but love a dressier hat on winter season. A feather decor would probably give life to my old beret.

Peacock feathers are so lovely, and not just for hats, either! I have a pair of peacock feather earrings I adore.
ReplyDeleteI know that my mother-in-law would be delighted to wear peacock feathers. In fact, she may have already done so... she's very stylishly flamboyant. I'm going to ask her. :)
ReplyDeleteI am not a hat person, but I have always wanted to be. Hats are just so chic and fashionable and I've always wanted to look awesome in them. I just... don't. It's a pity really.
